Anxiety depression medicine

The social, psychological and biological etiology of depression is still being actively investigated. For individuals who are not genuinely in need, the fitness cost of major depression is very high because it threatens the flow of fitness benefits. Depression appears to have the effect of stopping a person in his tracks and forcing him to turn inwards and engage in a period of self reflection; it is a deeply introspective state.

It may also be associated with apathy, boredom, hollowness and lack of any positive source of interest or joy. Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) such as venlafaxine (Effexor) and duloxetine (Cymbalta) are a newer form of antidepressant that works on both noradrenaline and serotonin.

In considering the hypomania-depression connection, a distinction should be made between anxiety, panic, and stress. Meditation is increasingly seen as a useful treatment for some cases of depression. The current professional opinion on meditation is that it represents at least a plementary method of treating depression, a view that has been endorsed by the Mayo Clinic. Since the late 1990s, much research has been carried out to determine how meditation affects the brain (see the main article on meditation).

The depressed mood is adaptive in that it leads the person towards altering his thought patterns and behavior or way of living or else continues until such a time as he does so.

The different types of Depression and Anxiety are classified separately by the DSM-IV-TR, with the exception of hypomania, which is included in the bipolar disorder category. Suicide depression help.

External affective signs of depressed mood also include a physical hunching or stooping, or putting the head in the hands, and an appearance of being physically subdued, and flatness of speech.

Many people identify the feeling of being depressed as "being blue", "feeling sad for no reason", or "having no motivation to do anything". A depressed mood is generally situational and reactive, and associated with grief, loss, or a major social transition. Laboratory tests can provide medical data for diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, but currently not for depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other mental disorders.
